Norfolk Removes Eagle Nests Due To Aircraft Risks

Posted: Updated:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Norfolk Botanical Garden has lost its popular bald eagle nests.

Media outlets say the city removed one complete nest and a partial nest Thursday morning.

City and federal officials say the nests had to be removed because of safety concerns.

The botanical garden is near Norfolk International Airport. In the past 10 years, four bald eagles have collided with aircraft using the airport.

The city acquired state and federal permits this week to remove the nests.
