CAMDEN, Del. – A barricade situation ends with an arrest late Wednesday
night. Delaware State Police tell WMDT the suspect was taken into custody just
after 10:20 PM. Initial reports show the Delaware State Police Special Operations
Team (SORT) made their way into the suspect's home and took him into
custody at 10:10PM. No word yet on how the operation took place.
We're told the subject did suffer unspecified self-inflicted wounds and was
treated by State Police SORT medics. He was then reportedly taken to an area
hospital for further evaluation. His condition is not known at this time. Police
still have not released the man's identity, however they say he is 49-years-old.
Delaware State Police say that the incident started at a home on Green
Winged Trail in Wild Quail in Camden around 12 PM Wednesday afternoon. They
reportedly got a call around 2 PM, after the woman allegedly involved in what
is being called a domestic dispute, made contact with an ambulance after
leaving the home. Authorities have not released how the man and woman are
connected.
Since that time the Delaware State Police SORT and
Conflict Management Team attempted to make contact with the subject. They
tell WMDT that the subject was armed with an unknown type firearm throughout
the incident. We're told no other people were inside the home during the barricade
and that no other injuries were reported.
As a precaution, troopers evacuated several homes in the area shortly after
they responded to the scene and both entrances to Green Winged Trail were
blocked off. Residents were allowed back into their homes around 10:30 PM.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. We
will continue to bring you the latest information as it becomes available. Stay
