PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Officials are alerting people of a jury duty scam. They say that the scam starts by getting a call saying that a warrant has been issued for your arrest because you didn't show up for jury duty.
The caller will then ask for your personal information like a social security number and your birth date. In some cases they even give a second phone number to call, 704-319-7254, which is also a scam. Officials tell us that one is an attempt to seal your identity.
The First Judicial Circuit of Maryland says that they will not ask for personal information over the phone, and generally correspond with potential jurors by mail. Authorities are urging the public not to give any confidential information over the phone.
You can call your local court's jury office with questions. For more information visit the FBI's website.
