Brave Store Owner Turns Tables On Armed Robbery Suspect

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - A brave store owner turns the tables on an armed robbery suspect.

It took place Monday afternoon at Hitchens Auto Sales on Seashore Highway. Police say 27-year-old Aaron Jefferson of Millsboro walked into the store, demanded money and pulled a gun on a female employee behind the counter. The victim screamed and Jefferson started to run. But he was confronted by the store owner, armed with a metal pipe. The owner managed to take the gun and force Jefferson to the ground until police arrived. WMDT spoke with the female employee and folks who live near the business who admit they're shaken up.

"Used to be a nice place around here. Never used to have to lock your place up. Nothing like this never happened. Nothing happened since I've grown up, and I've been here almost 47 years. It's the first time something like this - this close anyway. It's crazy," neighbor Bryan Donovan said.

Despite the scuffle, we're told no one was injured. The suspect faces a number of charges including attempted robbery. The female employee tells WMDT that the store owner is her "hero."
