DELAWARE - The former mayor of Georgetown just made the deadline, to declare a write-in candidacy.
Brian Pettyjohn has launched his campaign for the 19th Delaware Senate district seat. He had served as Georgetown mayor for two years, ending this past May, and served as a councilman for two years prior. The other candidates are Republican Eric Bodenweiser and Democrat Jane Hovington. Pettyjohn says he feels he can do a better job because of his experience.
"It's a diverse district. You've got farming interests on the West side, you have business and government interests in the center near Georgetown, and then on the Eastern side you have interests in land rent," said Pettyjohn.
The 19th District covers Georgetown, Bridgeville and Lock Neck. Residents can cast their vote on election day.
