UPDATE: Remembering Pete Cooper

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Sad news, Eastern Shore legend Pete Cooper has passed away.

Pete served as Salisbury's Public Works Director for 28 years, and also played a vital role in the construction of several bridges across Delmarva. Those projects included the Route 50 bridge into Ocean city, the Riverwalk, and planting new trees on Eastern Shore Drive which was dedicated in his name.

"He donated all those trees to the city. We planted those a couple years ago and just working with him through that project, is probably a memory that will stick with me," said a long-time friend, John Pick.

Hugh Livingston released this statement on behalf of the Salisbury Rotary Club: "He contributed in so many ways as a public servant... Pete Cooper was first and foremost a gentleman, and equally as humble, right to the very end of his amazing life. The Rotary Club of Salisbury will miss our friend and member."

Pete was 102 years old. No word yet on a time or date for his funeral, but we'll keep you posted with those details as soon as they're available.
