Delaware Woman Dies After Hit-And-Run Accident

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a woman critically injured in a hit-and-run in Newark earlier this week has died.

Police said 52-year-old Maria Eldreth of Wilmington died late Friday evening as a result of her injuries.

Eldreth had been hospitalized since the hit-and-run on Tuesday. Police said that Eldreth and another woman, 67-year-old Judith Johnson of Newark, were walking on the side of roadway on Corporate Boulevard in Newark about 7:30 a.m. when they were struck from behind. Johnson was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver fled the scene but was later located.

Troopers are still investigating and have not released the driver's name.
