Dedication Ceremony For Three Federalsburg Boys Killed In Drowning Accident

Posted: Updated:

FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Now to an update on a story we brought to you back in July. If you'll recall, a tragic drowning accident claimed the life of three young boys in Federalsburg.

The community is now hosting a dedication ceremony for them. The First Church Of God has built a basketball court, in memory of 12-year-old Vladimir Jacotin, his 11-year-old cousin, Christopher Gabriel and 6-year-old Yamoude Dona. The boys were last seen playing ball at the church, just before going in the water.

"There was a lot of fear over what happened. There is a big unknown factor so we thought since the boys were coming here to play basketball, we would give them a more permanent way to play sports here in our community, and for Vladimir, Christopher and Yamoude, we're going to say its in dedication to them," said Pastor Peter Smith, with the First Church Of God.

The community has shown their support for family members, donating $30,000 for funeral costs. The dedication ceremony is at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
