SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - An alleged burglar is behind bars, ending a crime spree in Delaware. William Tingle II allegedly robbed 8 homes over the course of 6 days in Sussex County during August of 2012.
According to Delaware State Police, the burglaries happened during broad daylight, all within only a few miles of each other, where several items including jewelry and firearms were stolen from the homes.
Kenny Greens, a neighbor of one of victims, said "these people were devastated. You know there was a lot of their life savings involved in what they took."
The victims in the house on Green's blocked moved out of the area a few weeks after the break-in, but there's no evidence to believe it was a direct result of the incident.
The burglaries have taken more from the victims and their communities than just the stolen items. Many of the people have lost a sense of security in their own neighborhoods.
"We never even locked our house...for a long time," Green said, "we used to leave our tractors in position so we could start me quickly so we stopped doing that."
But now that Tingle is in custody, residents are resting a little more comfortably.
Green said "I'm really glad to hear that they caught somebody. That makes us rest a little easier."
William Tingle is being held on a $92,000 bond and is expected in court on September 27th.
