WICOMICO Co., Md. - Wicomico County Public Schools continue to celebrate and support our local farms.
Wednesday, students from all across the county were served "butter fries" - a locally grown butternut squash cut to resemble french fries, baked, and lightly seasoned with cinnamon. WMDT hit Pinehurst Elementary today for a little taste test, and did the fries get the kids stamp of approval?
"Nasty!" kindergartner Drahcir said. "Good!" kindergartner Marcus Irin said. "Chicken!" kindergartner Noah Trott said. "It kind of has a pumpkin taste in it," fourth grader Jude Mondestin said. "I think it's really good and it has a little bit of the french fries taste," fourth grader Dane Stone said.
Fresh local fruits and vegetables have been served in Wicomico school cafeterias since the start of the school year.
