FEDERALSBURG, Md. - A developing story out of Caroline County, where investigators are working rigorously to solve the murder of a Federalsburg man, allegedly shot and killed on Tuesday night. There are no suspects, no motive, and no witnesses. Police are tight lipped about what led up to the murder of 21-year-old Anthony Abner.
"None of that information is being released. Unfortunately, because it's an ongoing investigation basically the information I gave you is all we're going to be releasing at this point in time," said Sgt. Marc Black, Spokesman for Maryland State Police.
We do know that Abner was shot in the area of the 300 block of East Central Avenue, and died in front of the Maryland Plastics building. The markings from crime scene technicians collecting evidence, could still be seen hours later.
Investigators say his body was discovered just before midnight. Neighbors say they heard gunshots, but saw nothing. Abner apparently just moved to the Federalsburg area less than a month ago. Residents say it's a relatively quiet neighborhood, but the community is no stranger to crime.
"It used to be a lot of drugs but I think it quieted down," said Grace Harris, a local neighbor.
Still, there is so much left unsaid. The drug task force responded to the scene, but why? Was Abner linked to any drug activity? Was he in fear for his safety? Those are all questions that will remain unanswered, until an autopsy report reveals more.
Maryland State Police are urging anyone with information to call them at 410-819-4747.
