Chincoteague Celebrates Bridge's 50th Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. - The bridge connecting Chincoteague and Assateague Islands will be closed this weekend. Officials will close the bridge from 10 AM until Noon on Saturday September 29th, to celebrate the bridge's 50th Anniversary.

During these two hours, no one will be able to come from or go to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, but bring the family out before to celebrate at this free, family friendly event. There will be a parade, with live music and historic vehicles. There will also be free food and ice cream at the visitors center after! Kids can get their face painted, and watch the pony show.

The entry fee for the Refuge and lighthouse climb will be waived for Saturday's celebration. For more information call Susie Besecker at 757-894-0939.
