WICOMICO CO., Md. - Charges against a man accused of murder have been dropped.
Bilal Akram was set to go on trial Tuesday in the shooting death of Euric George, back in March. However, Assistant State's Attorney Joel Todd says his case was dismissed because the main witness, who once said Akram passed the weapon to the shooter, recanted their statement.
Akram was thought to be Randy Clayton's accomplice. He was found guilty two weeks ago.
"The testimony of the witnesses was that Clayton pulled the gun from his hip or pocket, and that no one had passed him the gun so once that case was over we realized there was no evidence," said Todd.
Todd says they have no plans to file additional charges against Akram. Clayton will be sentenced on November 15th.
