SALISBURY, Md. - A Mardela Springs man is being accused of assaulting a sheriff's deputy. According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, an off duty deputy was in Wal-Mart, when he was asked to help with a possible shoplifter.

The deputy reportedly found the suspect, 19-year-old Michael Conaway, in the parking lot, with a stolen knife in one pocket and marijuana in the other. They say that while Conaway was handcuffed, he started yelling and cursing at the deputy, and he also kicked the deputy.

He was arrested, charged with 2nd degree assault, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, and theft. Conaway is being held at the Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
