Groups To USDA: Withdraw Poultry Proposal

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - Advocacy groups are urging the USDA to rethink a new poultry law.

The proposal would increase slaughter line speeds at processing plants. The measure would also remove hundreds of federal inspectors from the plants, replacing them with plant employees.  Critics of the legislation say they have concerns about worker and food safety.

The coalition of 23 groups and 16 individuals includes AFL-CIO, Center for Food Safety, among others.
