OCEAN CITY, Md. -- Just after 3 Tuesday morning, a quiet Ocean City neighborhood was turned upside down. Police were called to North Canal Street, only to find a woman dead on the ground after falling off a three story balcony.
"It happened in the off hours of the morning. There's not a lot of activity at 3 o'clock in the morning after Labor day in Ocean City, and it didn't happen in an area that's part of the beach front," Ocean City Police Officer Mike Levy tells WMDT.
It was on the bay side of the St. Croix condominiums that a 41 year old woman fell to her death. Investigators are trying to figure out what exactly happened. Police tell us it's very unusual for this late in the season.
"The frequency is a little greater in the summer but it's a rare occurrence to have someone fall from a balcony," Levy says.
Neighbors were stunned to hear about what happened.
"It's late in the season. it's what a Monday night this happened I mean I can understand there's still partying going on on weekends but this is really strange," neighbor Deborah Marshall tells us.
Police say they do not suspect there was a party going on at the time of the deadly fall. The identity of the woman is being withheld at this time. Police also will not say if foul play is suspected, or if anyone else was home at the time.
The body now heads to the medical examiners office in Baltimore for an autopsy.
