Bike Week Over, Ocean City Arrests Up From Last Year

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Crime numbers are in from over the weekend.

Police reportedly arrested 52 percent more this year, compared to the same weekend last year.     DUI arrests and weapon arrests also increased, up 53 and 33 percent, respectively.

But officials say this was bound to happen because two different events - the Ocean City Bike Fest and Delmarva Bike Week - rolled through the beach town at the same time.

"You're going to have more people, you're going to have violations," said public affairs officer Mike Levy.  "You're going to have more incidences that occur.  When you have more people and when you have multiple event sites you're going to have more activity."

Officials also said nothing happened out of the ordinary.
