DOVER, Del. - As the gubernatorial race heats up, Governor Jack Markell kicks off his campaign just two months before election day.
"I've been very focused on being governor that's the most important part of what I do," said Gov. Jack Markell (D). "I'll continue to focus on that but I also need to get out and launch a campaign as well."
His top priority: boosting the economy.
"We have been so focused on jobs, schools and being good stewards to tax payers money and we just want to make sure we get out continue to focus on that message."
His opponent, Jeff Cragg (R), takes a similar approach, but with more than 30,000 unemployed in the First State, he is confident he is the best candidate for job creation.
"Go down to the local business whether it's a corner 7-Eleven or it's a deli or it's a restaurant and ask that business owner what he needs and he won't tell you that he needs a tax break. He won't tell you he needs money from the government. He says I just need the government to quit telling me how to run my business," said Cragg.
The two candidates come from different backgrounds and have different platforms. But they have one common goal and that's to help revitalize the economy.
"It's not personal it's not 'pick Jeff' or 'pick Jack.' It's what do the people of Delaware think is going to work for them it's pick their own future," said Cragg.
Regardless of your allegiance, both candidates want you to vote come Election Night on November 6th.
