ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Offshore wind energy might be one step closer to becoming reality in Maryland. Environmentalist groups - including the National Wildlife Federation - met earlier in Annapolis to discuss the possibility of building off the Atlantic Coast.
Groups say that this is a real option for America, offering an opportunity to power homes and businesses and create new jobs. The NWF report says that by using only a fraction of the offshore wind resources, 52 gigawatts of the over 1300 GW of energy generation, could power nearly 14 million homes in the United States.
The report also states that the energy is pollution-free and it will create over $200 billion with new economic activity along the coast.
