WEST OCEAN CITY, Md. - Local carpenters protest plans for the Tanger Outlets in Ocean City. The company recently announced the addition of a Coach and Chicos store to their outdoor mall. However, these laborers are up in arms over what they believe are unfair wages and standards which are reportedly not being monitored by the contractors hired to build the stores.
"They're paying substandard of that, they're buying below that and sometimes certain contractors do not pay retirement, they do not pay health and welfare, they do not pay retirement, they do not pay unemployment. We're just making sure everybody knows we're here to protect their rights," said Mark Wagner, with the Metropolitan Regional Council Of Carpenters.
Wagner says they will continue to protest until they get some answers. We reached out to the assistant general manager of the Tanger Outlets in Ocean City who say they are "not involved in the hiring of the contractors of our tenants."
