FRUITLAND, Md. - Now to an update on Fruitland Police, and their push to add a new crime fighter to their team. This past weekend, they held a Crab Feast Fundraiser at the Salisbury Moose Lodge, to raise funds for a new canine.
They already have Astra, who's been a vital tool on their team for almost a year now. We caught up with police who say the event was a huge success. Over 250 people came out to support their cause.
"We brought in approximately $6800 for the event, which after the bills are paid, amounts to a $3,000 profit for the canine program and that goes a long ways for us so we're real happy with it," said Sergeant Brian Swafford.
Officials say they need about $15,000 to get another canine, and may need another year or two of fundraising to meet that goal.
