SALISBURY, Md. - Though the Shorebirds season has officially ended, this weekend, a group of players from the Baltimore-D.C. area is playing baseball at Perdue Stadium.
"Everybody wants to still play baseball like you're a major league baseball player even though you are 50, 60 years or in some cases 83 years old," said Tim Tremblay, a life-long baseball fan.
A group of friends - from all walks of life. A doctor, a retired police officer just to name a few are enjoying America's past time, one swing at a time.
But no one epitomizes the group more than the man they call "Beau."
"We played up in Cooperstown about nine years ago. It was 104 degrees for the day and Beau caught every inning of every game," said Tremblay.
Beau is a gamer: He's short is stature with his black Nike shoes and custom "Kaplan-stitched" Orioles jersey.Beau is 83.
"I took a 50-year retirement and then when my wife sent me to the Orioles Fantasy Camp, I resumed my career," said Lewis "Beau" Kaplan.
His game is youthful. His demeanor is humble.
"It wasn't that I was that great of a hitter, but I happened to hit the game-winning single," said Kaplan. "I think [I hit it] on three occasions during the tournament. It wasn't that I hit [the ball] that well, I just happened to hit it at the right time."
The group likens him to a living legend: one who played catcher many years ago.
"He's like Yogi Berra," said Tremblay. "Just a nice, genuine guy that knows the game, plays the game with a lot of veracity."
As Yogi once said - it's like déjà vu all over again. Playing at his age, no one understands that more than Beau.
