DOVER, Del. - A manhunt for a fugitive continues after a barricade situation in Dover.
It all started as a routine traffic stop.A five hour barricade leaves state troopers searching for answers. Allen Gantt Junior is reportedly on the run, after escaping the Kentwood Mobile Homes in Dover. Officials received a tip that a man entered this trailer, but could not confirm if that man was Gantt. Finally entering the trailer late Wednesday night, the suspect was long gone.
Because of this neighbors are taking precaution because of this event.
"No, I don't feel safe and I'm not going to be here for a couple more months," said neighbor Chris Jolly.
Another resident of the Kentwood trailer homes says that "it's a little scary, but I keep my doors locked. It's just too bad they couldn't get him I hope they get him."
Troopers say the Dover man evaded police earlier this week. At a routine stop near Fast Landing Road on State Road 1, one trooper walked towards Gantt's car as Gantt sped off, narrowly missing the trooper. Then troopers began a high speed pursuit, which ended due to excessive speeds. This all started because of a suspended license and expired insurance.
But it does not end there.
Police say Gantt does have a criminal record.
Back in 2003, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison on theft and burglary charges in Sussex County. Earlier that year, Gantt pulled a nine millimeter from his waist and pointed it at a Delaware State trooper. The trooper fired three shots and hit Gantt in the stomach. The trooper was put on administrative leave following the event.
