SALISBURY, Md. - Expect some changes in the City of Salisbury. In a press conference today, City Council president Terry Cohen shed new light on plans for several hot topics in the city.
Some of the issues addressed were making park donations easier. Designating $2 million to go to the surplus fund. Potential new, affordable, homes along the Wicomico River called "Rivers Edge." And the recent discussion of increasing Police Funding.
Salisbury City Council President, Terry Cohen says "the quiet dedication of our Salisbury Police Department cannot be taken for granted one more minute. Your Council not only supported moving forward to legislative session. It unanimously agreed to a higher figure for providing long term security."
The Council tells us the approved amount is somewhere between $400,000 and $650,000. The initial request was only $400,000. Cohen also talked about the possible demolition of the Thrift Travel Inn.
According to Council officials Mayor Ireton has requested an additional $55,000 in funds to demolish the building. But the demolition cannot be accomplished at this time due to the property currently being auctioned online and a legal notification process from the City is not likely to finish until October 20.
If the property does not sell at auction the COuncil wants the property owner and the bank to demolish the Thrift Inn at the bank's own expense.
