Police: Suspect Couldn't Get To Stepdad's Guns

TOWSON, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County police say the high school student suspected of critically wounding a classmate knew about the cache of guns at his stepfather's house but couldn't get to them because they were locked in a safe.

Fifteen-year-old Robert Wayne Gladden Jr. has been charged as an adult with attempted murder and assault in the shooting Monday morning at Perry Hall High School. Police say Gladden used an antique shotgun that he took from his father's house.

After the shooting, police searched the home of Gladden's stepfather and found 11 firearms. Police Chief James Johnson said in a blog post published Friday that Gladden knew he could not access his stepfather's guns and took the shotgun from his father's house "because it was the only weapon he could get."
