Two Synthetic Drugs Added To Federal Controlled Substances List

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - A popular synthetic street drug has been deemed illegal and dangerous.

They are best known by the names "Spice" and "K2", and have been recently added to the federal list of "Schedule 1 Controlled Substances."

These products have been a long time concern for authorities, mainly because of their link to potentially severe adverse reactions and abuse.

So far in 2012 Maryland Poison Control has received over 150 calls related to their use. More than half of those, involved someone 19-years-old or younger, and from 20 of the state's 24 counties, four of which involved admission ICU.

Now that the sale of these products is illegal under federal law, the Department urges retailers to remove them from their shelves.
