UPDATE: "Stuff The Backpacks" Event

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, MD- Thanks to three area Rotary Clubs, some underprivileged children will head back to school with all the supplies they need.

Over the past six months, three area Rotary Clubs have collected and stuffed over 600 backpacks with school supplies.

Saturday, volunteers gathered at the Christian Shelter in Salisbury to distribute some of the  backpacks to families.

The Rotary Clubs have received a wealth of support in this project, corporate businesses like Staples have contributed supplies.

This annual project is designed to give local families in need one less thing to worry about when preparing their children to head back to school.

"What we've heard from all the community leaders, Christian Shelter especially, is that the parents look forward to this every year and knowing the way the economy is, that they have a place that they can go to make sure their kids are going to have school supplies for the coming year," says organizer Bill Ferguson.

A large portion of the backpacks that were not given out Saturday, were distributed by a local organization to other families in need.
