Salisbury Fire Chief Speaking Out About City Council's Decision

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury Fire Department is still feeling the burn after last night's vote to put out an opportunity to hire 12 more firefighters. The City council denied the $1 million grant, because of apparent miscalculations. However, Chief Richard Hoppes is speaking out, saying those issues were resolved before the vote. Some $400,000 was underestimated, but Hoppes says FEMA agreed to foot that bill if the grant was accepted.

"I think that's really the disappointing factor is how something so positive for our community, has somehow in some way, has turned into a negative. I don't understand it, but we have to deal with it and we'll overcome it," said Chief Hoppes.

Chief Hoppes also says he talked to FEMA, and luckily they can still apply for the same grant next year.
