SALISBURY, Md. - Ten people escaped a burning home in Salisbury early Tuesday morning.
Salisbury Fire Department Assistant Chief Gladwell says flames broke out in 224 Hazel Avenue just before 3:00 AM. Gladwell says there were 10 occupants at the time of the fire and they jumped out of windows to escape the blaze.
It took about an hour and a half for 40 firefighters from both Salisbury and Fruitland fire departments to get the blaze under control. The Salisbury Police Department closed several surrounding streets temporarily as crews worked.
Officials say one of the occupants suffered a minor ankle injuries along with a firefighter.
Gladwell says the home has been condemned and the Red Cross is now assisting the family.
The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. They estimate the damages to be at $90,000.
