MARYLAND - It's a penny pinchers paradise in Maryland. Tax Free week is in full swing: an entire week of shopping, with a guaranteed 6 percent off most items under $100.The perfect time for parents to replenish their child's closet for the upcoming school year.

"At my school were wearing khaki skirts and shorts, and navy blue collared shirts and stuff," said Wicomico County Student, Claire Foster.

She and her dad are gearing up for Wicomico County's first year of uniforms, and stopped at the Tanger outlets to stretch their buck a little further.

"Last week he kept suggesting we come over here and I kept saying lets wait until next week to take advantage of 6 percent off," said Candace Orsetti of Annapolis.

Joe Wright, President of Vernon Powell Shoes says Tax Free Week is a great way to get shoppers in Maryland stores.

"We have a store in Delaware and we definitely see where customers will go to Delaware to make large purchases and it's definitely important for Maryland to be competitive," said Wright.

However keep in mind, there are some exclusions, and the big one this year backpacks and handbags. Those accessories and several others like watches, jewelry, scarves and even umbrellas are not tax-exempt. Tax Free Week ends this Saturday.
