SALISBURY, Md. - A local beach has re-opened after it was closed to protect its wildlife.
Earlier in the summer officials at Cape Henlopen State Park had closed areas at both the Point and Gordons Pond to let seven pairs of piping plovers raise their chicks. Now the chicks have fledged, and Gordons Pond is once again open to vehicular and foot traffic, as of Saturday.
The Point will remain closed to allow refuge for thousands of shorebirds who migrate. It is expected to remain closed until September 1st for the ocean side, October 1st for the bay side.
