Seaford Man Charged After Marijuana Grow Discovered

Posted: Updated:

SEAFORD, Del. - Troopers have charged a 51 year old Seaford, DE man with manufacturing marijuana after being called to investigate a neighborhood dispute in the Indian Village Mobile Home Park, Seaford.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 10, 2012 at approximately 12:16 p.m. after Troopers were called by a 52 year old female that resides in the 23000 block of Burton Street indicating that her neighbor, later identified as Joseph E. Easterday, had walked into her yard the previous evening and threatened her before fleeing on foot. On Friday, Easterday was observed again by the victim, driving by her residence and shouting obscenities.

Troopers investigating the incident responded to Easterday's residence also located in the 23000 block of Burton Street in an attempt to contact him with negative results. Troopers received information that Easterday may be in a camper that was located in the rear of his property. As Troopers checked the camper for Easterday, they noticed a strong odor of unburnt marijuana in the area of the camper and located an approximately 6' tall marijuana plant growing in a plastic container and several other large plants that appeared to be marijuana. The investigation culminated with the execution of a search warrant for the property where Troopers located and seized 23 marijuana plants totaling approximately 22 pounds and assorted drug paraphernalia associated with a marijuana grow operation.

Joseph E. Easterday was taken into custody without incident and was charged with the above crimes. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $21, 200 Cash Bond.
