DOVER, Del. - A Philadelphia man is behind bars in Delaware after reportedly assaulting an officer.
Delaware State Police say 31-year-old Hughie Cooper was on a man's Dover property, so he called police, but Cooper had already left. A trooper later saw Cooper on Kenton Road, and when he saw the trooper, he reportedly started to run, with the trooper right behind him and shouting commands for Cooper to stop.
The trooper says that he did not show his hands when asked so she used a Taser to subdue him. After that the two reportedly struggled, and Cooper was able to get control of the Taser, and used it on the trooper. The trooper was not incapacitated by the tase and was able to break free and restrain Cooper with handcuffs.
He was later charged with 2nd degree felony assault on a law enforcement officer, felony resisting arrest, and 3rd degree criminal trespass. He was treated and released from the hospital and is now being held on $10,500 bond. The trooper was also treated for injuries from the assault and released from the hospital.
