BERLIN, MD- The town of Berlin's Economic Development division has been making big strides to bring big business to their downtown area.
With the perfect mix of advertising, event planning and vibrancy, Berlin Officials have seen growth in the area.
Michael Day, the Director of the Town of Berlin's Economic Development has been working hard to bring and sustain growth. "What we did was we had two warehouses that were converted into office retail space. One of them opened up three new storefronts and six new apartments," says Day.
Michael Wiley, one of Berlin's official ambassadors, has been a proud resident of Berlin for the past seven years. In the time that he has lived in the town, he has witnessed growth. "New stores, a big variety of stores, several new restaurants. But the biggest thing is the percentage of stores that are open, " says the ambassador.
Just this year, at least ten new businesses have opened their doors. There is something for everyone. From a toy shop, to a yoga studio, a bridal boutique and a new Italian restaurant.
Deborah Everett, the owner of the Maryland Wine Bar, just opened her business two months ago and already she is positive that she made the right choice. "I just toyed with the idea of having a tasting room and we were looking for the perfect place which means you need to have good foot traffic and I thought Berlin would be a perfect spot," says Everett.
With more than ten shops in just one year, downtown business in Berlin is booming and according to town officials, it is only going to get better.
