Occupy Delaware folds up tents

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - After nine months protesting economic injustice in Wilmington's Spencer Plaza, activists with the Occupy Delaware movement have folded up their tents.

The last protesters vacated the plaza Sunday afternoon. Under a settlement with the city, they had agreed to leave by Sept. 10, a week before the city starts a $1.2 million renovation of the plaza.

Protester Jennifer Wallace says nine months was a fitting amount of time to maintain the tent city. She says the group plans to continue its creative protests.

About 50 people attended the dismantling of the camp on Sunday.
