LEWES, Del.- The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a crash that occurred Saturday afternoon involving an ambulance.
The incident occurred at 4:37 PM. A Mid-Sussex ambulance was transporting a priority one patient from a Jet-Ski crash on the Indian River to Beebe Emergency Room. Christian Jackson-Puglisi was operating the 2008 ambulance and was traveling eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway entering the intersection of Coastal Highway with all emergency equipment activated.
As the ambulance entered the intersection with the northbound traffic, a 2000 Chevrolet Prism being operated by Evan P. Hutton. Hutton failed to see the ambulance and struck it on the front passenger's side. The ambulance was pushed counterclockwise and remained in the roadway. The Prism continued in a north east direction before coming to a stop.
Christian Jackson-Puglisi was removed from the scene by another ambulance and transported to Beebe Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 43 year-old patient was transferred to another ambulance and continued on to Beebe.
A 21 year-old EMT was also transported to Beebe with non-life-threatening injuries. The three paramedics on board the ambulance were not injured and continued treatment to all patients.
Evan Hutton, who was not properly restrained had to be extricated from his vehicle and was later removed by EMS to Beebe hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
The investigation into the crash is continuing and charges are pending.
