SALISBURY, Md. - The 11 and 12-year-old West Salisbury Little League All-stars are headed to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in Bristol, Connecticut.
This is the fourth team since 1959 to make it this far. "It was something that 5 years ago I was actually looking and saying, 'wow, when they're 12 years old, we might be able to win a state championship.' And as time went on, you start to realize well, that means Bristol," manager Frank DelGaudio said.
The boys prove themselves worthy with a 10-0 record and the Maryland State Title. "So far the story has been pitching. We've only given up anywhere from 1 to 5 hits a game," DelGaudio said.
But they know they have a tough road ahead of them. "I'm nervous!" 3rd baseman Malik Johnson said. "We know we need to step it up and play our hardest and don't give up," 1st baseman Jacob Booze said. "We knew that we we're going to regionals and we still had quite some, before we could actually be done with it," 2nd baseman Griffin DelGaudio said.
Making regionals is a big triumph, but the ultimate goal is to make it to Williamsport, Pa for the Little League World Series. "You know, it feels really good because this is one opportunity," Booze said. "If we can get a couple things to go our way in Bristol, then we're up in Williamsport and it's just every kid's dream," Frank DelGaudio said.
The boys play their first game on Saturday against Delaware at 11 AM.
Good Luck guys!
