SELBYVILLE, Del. -- The 2012 Summer Olympics are in full swing across the pond, but here in the states some local gymnasts are going for the gold.
Mid Coast Gymnastics just got back to the shore from the USAIGC competition in Fort Lauderdale, competing against teams from as far away as South Africa.
"We took 20 girls from ages 8 all the way up to 17, and we did really well. We placed gold team got second, silver team got second, and bronze team got third so we were really proud of them," head coach Kim Wickham tells WMDT.
This was 13 year old Brook Ward's third time competing.
"I got first all around for the second year in a row and I was really excited," she tells us.
And 11 year old Cassidy Vanvonno's eyes are on the prize after placing 3rd overall, and tumbling her way to 2nd place on the floor.
"Gymnastics is my whole life I've done it since I was little and I love it so much," she says.
The girls competed in bars, beam, floor and vaults.
Next years competition is in California so the girls will have to raise money now to go.
