CRISFIELD, Md. - It's Crisfield's first murder in 7 years. Chief Michael Tabor is left picking up the pieces of an alleged broken love triangle that cut so deep, it ended in bloodshed.
"The woman had two boyfriends and I think the one that stabbed the other guy was paying for the rent and everything," said Nisha Surti, whose family owns the Pines Motel.
She says they banned the suspect, 40-year-old John Hill Junior, from their property but there was no stopping him. Hill did come back and he came to room 206, and that's when the violence erupted. Hill allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim twice in the left side. He later died at the hospital. Police responded within 14 seconds, but say more security is needed in that area.
"We've had bike patrols in there we've had additional officers in there. When you have an 11 man police department it's pretty hard to do because you can't babysit that motel," said Chief Michael Tabor.
Hill was arrested and charged. The victim, 42-year-old Aaron Culbertson, was said to be a likeable person, and the father of three children.
"The day it happened he was swimming in the swimming pool with his kids. He was a really good guy," said Surti.
Management at the Pines Motel says they're looking into getting more security cameras. Chief Tabor tells us the town is looking into more options for safety in other problem areas as well.
