SALISBURY, Md. - Dan Griffin is a nominee for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team - the most prestigious off-the-field honor in college football.
The award recognizes a select group of players dedicated to making a difference in their communities. "Wow - this is awesome. This is a really prestigious honor to have," Griffin said.
An all conference player and starting quarterback at Salisbury University, Dan proves himself to be a leader both on and off the field. "Cocky is the exact opposite of Dan Griffin. He's a positive role model, takes leadership, isn't afraid of big plays, isn't afraid of being in the limelight - just the guy that gets the job done," former teammate Randal Smedley said. "Dan has done a great job as a quarterback, leading us to 11 wins last year into the quarter finals. So, we're really pleased about that, but more importantly, he's a community service type person," head coach Sherman Wood said.
Dan's favorite part of working with the community - impacting the lives of young kids. "I love to give back because I had role models growing up - kids that I looked up to. Now I'm a kid that some younger kids look up to. I like to give back to the kids- give back what I was given when I was younger," said Griffin.
Come September, two good works teams of 11 players will be selected from a pool of 117 nominees. Past members include Super Bowl champion quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.
Best of luck, Dan!
