HARRINGTON, Del. - WMDT had so much fun today at the air national guards rise to the challenge tour. I got a little glimpse of what it takes to be in the air guard and had a chance to participate in real-life simulations, and I have to say, it was by no means an easy task. Check this out.
From demonstrating physical strength to honing surveillance skills, the air national guard gives you the opportunity to step into the roles of air guard men and women. The challenge features 5 separate interactive simulations, each designed to highlight a skill associated with an air guard career field.
Ciarra Johnson, tour coordinator, says "we give everyone one of these game pieces. They take the game piece with them to each challenge to actually begin the challenge and keep track of their score throughout the 5 challenges." I got a chance to test out some of my skills.
My first mission-refueling a B2 spirit bomber mid-air. "You have to line the b2 bomber up with the boom extending from the kc 135 for it to connect and refuel. And its timed, you have 60 seconds." My first attempt, mission failed. "It crashed!" Round 2, a success. Other missions include a mock jet engine repair challenge, a medical knowledge simulation, a reconnaissance drill and a physical strength test.
But the best part of the experience is the video booth, where you can record a 20 second personal message of thanks to our troops serving our country at home and abroad. "I just want to thank all the men and women of the air national guard for all that you do. We really appreciate everything, you guys are the true heroes of America."
At the end of the challenges, you can go to the tent outside where the recruiters are. They'll scan your game piece and see if you made the top 10 leader board, and the top 10 leaders get a prize! You still have a chance to give it a try, the simulation ends at 7.
