HARRINGTON, Del. - The love of ice cream is what one local fire company hopes will lure Delaware State Fair goers to their stand. They have been selling ice cream throughout the fair as a fundraiser to offset some of their annual expenses.
They've ordered a new ambulance which will cost over $250,000 to put into service. President Ken Ryder says the fire company can spend as much as a million a year on equipment and services.
Ken Ryder, President, says "we have a lot of staff, we provide a lot of services. It takes a lot of money to run two ambulances and fund our EMT's. That's primarily where most of the money goes." Funds from the fair have not been totaled yet but Ryder believes their sales are up from last year.
