Delaware Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn
HARRINGTON, Del. - Delaware Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn came out to the fair on Friday and according to his office there are 400 foster care families in the first state housing over 800 children. The state wants to close that gap.
As part of a foster care Initiative, the state of Delaware is reaching out to all faith based organizations to try and increase the number of foster care families in the state.
Denn says the goal of the initiative is to get at least one family in each congregation to explore the parenting possibility. "We have about twice as many children in foster care as we have families that are able to take care of them, so we're trying to increase the number of families that we have that are wiling to take care of these kids. We have some situations where there are two or three kids living in a house where ideally there would be one."
The foster care initiative began in May as part of National Foster Care Month.
