HARRINGTON, Del. - These days it seems everyone is going green but it's not always easy. WMDT learned some secrets about it at the fair.
Jennifer Fitzsimmons, DNREC, gave us a tour. "It's a lot of fun in the DNREC building, they learn about conservation and energy, let's walk through." When you step inside the DNREC building at the Delaware State Fair the lessons begin in the green energy house. Fitzsimmons says "Here's a great example of what is and what's not recycleable."
The more you walk, the more you learn about how to live green and save green, even what it takes to generate your own power. Fitzsimmons says "Now we're in our energy efficiency section and this is our energy bike the kids are having a lot of fun and adults are too. Terrence you can start pedaling and our energy bike will show how much energy it takes to power that fan." Terrence says, "wooo that's enough."
Then it's time for some games at the Boardwalk arcade. There's recycle toss. "Pick any three items that you think is recycleable and go and toss it in." There's also environment jeopardy. This big kid was of course up for the challenge. "All living things need blank to live... water that's easy... Sweet!"
That's only a taste of what's in the DNREC building. They have so many activities for the whole family, and honestly, you will leave feeling a lot smarter about all things green.
