Camping Out At The Delaware State Fair

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del. - Now we have the pleasure of staying at the fair for all 10 days for work of course, but theres hundreds of people who do the same and WMDT got a sneak peak at what a typical day is like for these full time fair goers and it seems like they all have a little too much fun.

It's a family affair at the state fair. Each year this Delaware family parks their camper and gears up for 10 days of endless fun. Jo-Anne Lessard, of Cowgirls Corner Sheep Farm, says "It's a work vacation but it works out very nice for the children and for everybody."

Once the birds start chirping its time to get their animals ready for the show. Which means combing, bathing and shearing the sheep, a tough job for these young showman. 5-year-old, showman, Charlotte Wilson says "I like it because there is so much animals." Her 10-year-old brother Blake, also a showman, says "it's great that you can actually do this with your animal and bring it to the fair." Kellie Blessing, showman, says "we go out there give it our best if we don't win it's not a big deal."

That's because all the fun begins once the sun goes down, and it all happens right on this campground. "These are friends of ours in that camper right there." They may look small - but inside its pretty spacious. And that's not all - there's a grill and a refrigerator packed with food and brews. It's kind of like a big tail-gating party. "We look forward to it every year. Its fun. This is the one time of year we get to see everyone you know and don't get to see all the time."

Now if you have an animal at the fair or some other obligation that keeps you here on a daily basis, you can stay on the fairground for $250. There is also a small fee for pumping the water out, but there are bath houses available too. And a lot of people say its all worth it!
