CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Police need your help locating a suspect who allegedly tried to ambush an officer.
Police say it happened early Thursday morning around 2:35 a.m. on the 600 block of Cross Street. They say the uniformed Cambridge Police officer was about to enter his vehicle when he heard someone running towards him from behind. The officer allegedly turned and saw the suspect with an arm extended towards the officer as if holding a handgun. That's when police say the officer used his forearm to deflect the suspect's arm upward over the officer's head. The suspect allegedly fired two shots from a handgun next to the officer's head. After a brief struggle, police say the suspect fled the scene.
Police say while fleeing, the suspect tripped and fell in a pile of lumber and rubbish and is believed to have sustained at least scraps and bruising from the fall.
The suspect is described as an African American male, mid 20's, dark complexion with shoulder length well groomed dreads/braids. He was wearing blue jean shorts and dark shoes. Police say he was last seen in the 500 block of Pine Street in Cambridge.
Police say the officer received minor injuries and has been treated and released from the hospital.
