Local Boy Saves A Life

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md- In the midst of all the sad stories of local drowning fatalities that have occurred this past summer, one local boy is now being called a hero. 10 year old Carter Spicer of Salisbury saved a young girl from drowning this past week.

On Monday July 16th, Carter was swimming in the Salvation Army's pool in Salisbury with a local day camp he attends. One of the staff members from the camp noticed that there was a 6 year old girl at the bottom of the pool in the deep end.

When Carter swam down to the bottom, the young girl was unresponsive. Carter quickly acted and grabbed her by the arm then swam to bring her to the surface.

Rescue crews were able to revive the young girl and reports say that she is doing well.

WMDT asked Carter why he did such a brave act and he said "I just did what needed to be done, I just wanted her to be ok."

Carter's mother, Dawn Spicer expressed how proud she is of her son's heroic act, "Carter is such a kind person.  He is a Boy Scout and is constantly learning about survival skills and how to help others. He is a strong swimmer. I'm glad he was there to help."
