BERLIN, Md. - Maryland State police have identified the victim of the fatal plane crash in Worcester County.
Police say 23-year-old Garett Colona of Rhodesdale was the pilot and sole occupant of the Piper Super Cub aircraft that crashed Thursday morning in Berlin.
Maryland State Police say they responded to Bunting Airport on Carey Road around 10:50 a.m. Witnesses say the plane appeared to be having engine trouble after dropping an advertising banner. They also say the aircraft's wing appeared to have struck a large tree before crashing to the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are working in conjunction with state police investigators to determine the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
