SALISBURY, Md. - A big decision has been made in Wicomico County regarding the future of one of its public schools. The County Council has unanimously approved a bill that would authorize funding for Bennett Middle School. The vote followed a public hearing on the measure that was held in the council chambers. However, we hear only six council members voted, and that Council President Joe Holloway did not cast his vote. Despite that, the project can now move on to the next phase.
If all goes well, the school can look forward to air conditioning, wheel chair accessibility and many other things needed to further educate the youth. The county will foot the bill for 42 of the 75 million dollars needed for the entire project. The state will pay the rest. The council can now go to the bond market in October, to move the funding process forward.
