CAMBRIDGE, Md. - The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park is one step closer to becoming a reality. Cambridge residents filled Chesapeake College in Cambridge, Wednesday night to hear the latest on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad state park.
"She is an incredible hero. An American hero with an American story and its time to memorialize her," says the Director of Tourism in Dorchester County Amanda Fenstermaker.
Dorchester County officials, and a Baltimore architect told locals how everything is coming along.
"We've held a number of community meetings over the last several years to get input from the community with regards to the state park, with the national by-way, and the proposed national park," says Camila Clark the PR manager of the Maryland office of Tourism.
"We're updating people on projects we have going on. To do an audio guide to do a brochure. We have also started a website http://harriettubmanbyway.com/," says Fenstermaker.
With plans to break ground early next year, county tourism officials are working day and night to tie up some loose ends before construction.
"We're approaching the 100th anniversary of Harriet Tubman's passing. March 10th of 2013 is that anniversary, and we feel that this is the time to really take advantage of getting the word out there, and bringing people to Maryland Eastern shore," says Clark.
